Understanding the financial side of your visit to Hahnemann University Hospital is important. As a courtesy to you, we’ll submit bills to your insurance provider and do everything possible to expedite claims.
It may be necessary to contact your insurance company to supply additional information for claims processing or to expedite payment. Remember that your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company and you are ultimately responsible for payment of your hospital bill. Hahnemann accepts a variety of insurance plans and offers financial assistance programs for those in need.
Within 30 days of your insurance paying their portion, you’ll receive a statement indicating the patient balance. This balance is due within 30 days of your billing date. This also applies to any charges still unpaid by your insurance after 60 days. Payments can be made by cash, check or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express) in person, by mail or via online bill pay.
The bill you’ll receive reflects services you received during your hospital stay or from an outpatient service. Charges are from two categories: basic daily rate (room, meals, nursing care, housekeeping, telephone) and for special services (X-rays, laboratory tests).
You’ll likely receive two separate bills for care received at Hahnemann: one for hospital care, the other for doctor services. Pathologists, radiologists, cardiologists, anesthesiologists and other specialists are legally required to submit separate bills. Because of this and certain tests or treatments, you may receive bills from doctors you did not see in person. These bills are for services by these doctors in diagnosing and interpreting test results while you were a patient.
