Pharmacy Residency

Program Overview

Residents completing the PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Hahnemann University Hospital will become competent clinical practitioners who will be part of the medical team managing disease state outcomes and providing safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients. Since ASHP accreditation in 1997, residents have functioned as integral members of the healthcare team to provide complete and detailed pharmacotherapeutic interventions that improve patient care. Residents complete approximately ten months of core rotations and two months of elective rotations tailored to meet individual resident needs and interests.

Hospital & Department Overview

Hahnemann University Hospital is a large, for-profit teaching institution licensed for approximately 4​96 acute care beds. The hospital serves the greater Philadelphia area, including Bucks, Montgomery and Chester counties with a population in excess of 10 million and serves as the primary teaching hospital for Drexel University College of Medicine.

The Department of Pharmacy is staffed with ​more than 40 full-time pharmacists and support staff members. In addition to the clinical and medication distribution responsibilities, the Pharmacy Department is dedicated to the education and training of future pharmacy practitioners through its intern, student and residency training programs. The Pharmacy Department is affiliated with University of the Sciences, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson College of Pharmacy.

Mission Statement

The PGY1 pharmacy residency program at Hahnemann University Hospital provides an excellent training experience that develops the resident both clinically and professionally. The purpose of the residency program is to prepare pharmacists for positions in clinical practice, academia and advanced practice in a PGY2 specialty training program. Upon completion, residents will be self-directed learners possessing clinical competence, leadership and professional skills while exhibiting the confidence to excel in diverse practice environments.
