Hahnemann University Hospital’s Charles C. Wolferth Trauma Center Hosts Regional Day of Trauma at the Pennsylvania Convention Center

IMG_0834.jpgIMG_0833.jpgRegional trauma physicians recently gathered at the Pennsylvania Convention Center  for the 2018 Day of Trauma. Hosted by Hahnemann University Hospital’s Charles C. Wolferth Trauma Center, the annual event was presented by The Trauma Center Directors of Greater Philadelphia for the 22nd Charles C. Wolferth Jr. Oration. More than 100 people attended the event, including physicians, surgeons, pre-hospital providers, nurses, residents and students.

This year’s keynote speaker was Mark A. Malingoni, MD, associate executive director of the American Board of Surgery.  Dr. Malingoni’s presentation was, “How Should We Be Training Surgeons.” Each of the 16 trauma centers in the Philadelphia region highlighted a clinical case that demonstrated heroic lifesaving skills, sound clinical and operative judgment, as well as excellent multi-disciplinary teamwork. Each case presentation was critiqued by a panel of experts in the field of trauma, addressing social, economic, and therapeutic aspects of care and overall patient outcomes.

As part of the judging process, PGY-4 resident Dane Scantling, DO, MPH, Department of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine, received a very respectable third place in this year’s regional competition.
