Hahnemann University Hospital Celebrates Annual National Certified Nurses Day

Certified Nurses Day.jpgHahnemann University Hospital recently celebrated National Certified Nurses Day by honoring 137 nurses who currently are certified at the hospital.  A luncheon was held where all certified nurses received a certificate, lapel pin and new certified badge holder.

Registered nurses achieve certification by passing an examination.  Nurses have requirements to maintain their certification on an ongoing basis.  The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and other professional nursing organization manage the certification process.

Certification is the profession’s official recognition of the achievement, expertise and clinical judgement of nurses. Certified nurses are required to do continuing education and skill development to maintain this special achievement.  Certification is an indicator of quality that attracts patients and contributes to better patient care.

National Certified Nurses Day is celebrated annually on March 19. This date was chosen to honor Margretta Madden Styles, a registered nurse who was the pioneer and inspiration for nursing certification.
