Danielle DiCarlo, BSN, RN, 18 NT, Receives Hahnemann University Hospital's September 2018 DAISY Award

Danielle DiCarlo 1.jpgDanielle DiCarlo, BSN, RN, 18 NT, was recognized as Hahnemann University Hospital's September 2018 DAISY Award recipient. Danielle was nominated for her compassion, empathy and professionalism.

A patient’s mother nominated Danielle for the DAISY Award. She shared this as her reason for her nomination:

“During the patient’s course of stay, Danielle personally comforted the patient’s mother during one of the hardest times of this mother’s life. She took the time to listen and be there for her. This act of kindness moved the mother to tears. In this moment, the patient’s mother did not see Danielle as her son's nurse but as a daughter, a sister or her best friend. Danielle touched this mother’s heart in the darkest moment of her life. The patient’s mother commented that Danielle truly was an angel without wings during this time.”

Hahnemann University Hospital selects a nurse monthly to receive the DAISY Award. During an awards ceremony, the recipient is presented with a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch.” The piece is hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.

DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The care Patrick and his family received while he was ill inspired them to create the DAISY Awards as a way to recognize and thank nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families.
