PHILADELPHIA (April 11, 2008) - Hahnemann University Hospital has been honored by the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) with the 2008 Achievement Award.  

Each year, HAP honors innovation, creativity, and commitment to patient care through the annual HAP Achievement Awards, which showcase and share member hospital and health system innovations and best practices in a variety of areas. The award categories for 2008 included: workforce, community outreach and engagement, patient safety, patient care, and operational excellence. Hahnemann’s entry entitled “Project to Provide Optimal Patient Care & Produce Results that Make a Difference” took first place in the statewide competition in the workforce category.  

The workforce award was given to hospitals who initiated projects meant to attract, develop, and retain the best workforce and to enhance the knowledge and skill level of current and future health care professionals.  

Hahnemann’s submission chronicled results over the past year and a half since the inception of an initiative put in place in 2006 to enhance and improve many of the hospital’s quality indicators for Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Standards (AMI, CHF, and CAP). In 2006, the CMS Hospital Compare Website determined that EBP quality indicators showed room for improvement for the quality of care. Thanks to dedicated nurses, employees and physicians, eighteen months after introducing the program the total EBP measures have drastically improved to 94.7 percent.
