Hahnemann provides a wide variety of primary and tertiary surgical procedures. All members of the medical staff hold appointments at MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine. Ninety-eight percent of the staff members are board certified and most have received additional training to heighten their expertise in the various facets of their specialty. Our surgical services include: - General- Surgeons provide some of the latest surgical options in a wide range of disciplines, including surgical oncology for the breast, GI tract, hepato-biliary and pancreatic, as well as sarcomas and other rare tumors. The hospital is well known for kidney transplantation, which it pioneered in 1963 as the first hospital in the Delaware Valley to perform a renal transplant. As of June 2000, Hahnemann ranks #2 in Philadelphia for performing the most number of kidney transplants.
Surgeons perform Gastrointestinal procedures to correct gallbladder, liver and inflammatory bowel disease. Endocrine surgery includes procedures for adrenal, thyroid and parathyroid conditions. Same day surgery is available for some operations. - Vascular– Hahnemann offers the full gamut of surgeries for major aorta-iliac and peripheral vascular diseases. The department also offers procedures for diseases of the carotid artery, which includes both operative repair for these diseases as well as new interventional methods of treatment in dilation, stents, and minimally invasive techniques for the repair of aortic aneurysms.
