Bone Marrow Transplantation for Treatment of Leukemia, Lymphoma and Other Blood Disorders

The idea of a bone marrow transplant can be overwhelming and understandably scary. We’re here to help ease your fears and help you, whether you’re a bone marrow recipient or donor.

Since 1976, Hahnemann has offered a specialized Bone Marrow Transplant Program that has performed many transplants.

Currently, allogeneic (sibling), autologous (same), peripheral blood stem cell and unrelated donor transplants are performed in the unit. Patients stay in the controlled environment oncology unit (CEOU), a specialized unit consisting of 12 Laminar Air Flow rooms specifically designed for the care of patients receiving a bone marrow transplant.

Current areas of research include an international multi-institutional trial initiated by Hahnemann physicians, which deals with the complications of bone marrow transplants. Plans are also underway for the initiation of outpatient marrow and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation in the near future.

The transplant team includes attending physicians, oncology fellows, medical residents, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, transplant coordinators, nurses and care support associates.
