   Behavioral Health/Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry provides high quality behavioral health services. New programs are continually developed to meet client needs. Services are designed to reflect awareness of the current health care environment and the demands it places on its consumers. Described below are several programs that are a part of our integrated system. Behavioral health services are provided on an emergency, inpatient, outpatient, partial-hospital and consultation basis.

Inpatient: Hahnemann has a 20-bed Psychiatric Medical Care Unit (PMCU), which is dedicated to patients with a behavioral health diagnosis and concurrent medical illness. Psychiatric treatment is delivered by a team of highly qualified clinicians and is augmented with a wide array of medical specialty care. The PMCU provides psychiatric community for its psychiatric/medical expertise, as well as management of psychiatric behavior associated with brain injuries, developmental disabilities and dementia.

Outpatient: Adult, adolescent, and child behavioral health services are offered on an outpatient basis by psychiatrists and other non-medical clinicians. The staff has expertise in treating a wide range of diagnostic areas and uses a broad spectrum of therapeutic approaches and modalities based upon individual needs.

Clients who require a greater level of structure may be appropriate for IMPACT, the partial hospital program for adults. IMPACT offers therapeutic services through a group approach for individuals with a primary psychiatric diagnosis. Clients with a secondary diagnosis of substance abuse, developmental or physical disabilities, or medical illness are also accepted and receive services based upon individual treatment needs.
