Hahnemann University Hospital Performs Four Successful Cases at International Cardiology Symposium

PHILADELPHIA (October 30, 2007) – Hahnemann University Hospital’s interventional cardiology program was one of only five leading international medical centers featured as a live site at the 2007 19th Annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Scientific Symposium (TCT) sponsored by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation and held October 20 through October 25 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

The TCT conference is widely known as the world’s premier conference in interventional cardiology, endovascular medicine, and structural heart disease and is designed to showcase the latest trends, research, findings, and techniques to be disseminated to practicing physicians around the world.

Highlighted alongside 15 top medical institutions in the United States, as well as premier international hospitals in Germany, New Zealand, China, France, Israel, United Kingdom, Korea, Brazil, India, and Canada, Hahnemann was invited to participate in this year’s symposium because of the medical center’s history of contributions to interventional cardiovascular medicine. Physicians at Hahnemann have pioneered coronary and carotid stenting procedures, and have also been educational leaders in this field.

Cardiologists Dr. Sheldon Goldberg, M.D., and Dr. Daniel McCormick D.O., successfully performed four cases:  two coronary artery interventions and two carotid artery interventions.

Dr Goldberg has served as Professor of Medicine and Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine at Hahnemann since 2001, and Dr. McCormick has served as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Catheterizations Laboratories since 1999. Both physicians are cited in Woodward and White’s Best Doctors in America.

Hahnemann University Hospital is a 541-bed academic medical center at Broad & Vine Streets in Philadelphia, Pa.  The hospital is a tertiary care institution that specializes in cardiac services, heart failure and transplantation, OB/GYN, orthopedics, medical, surgical and radiation oncology, bone marrow transplantation, renal dialysis and kidney/pancreas/liver transplantation.  The hospital performed one of the city’s first kidney transplant in 1963 and one of the first bone marrow transplant in 1976.  In 1986, Hahnemann became Philadelphia’s first Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center for adults, and since then has been served by University MedEvac, an aeromedical transport program for critically ill patients.  Hahnemann is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation’s oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.
