Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Honors Hospital, Dr. Ari Brooks

PHILADELPHIA – Hahnemann University Hospital, along with hospital physician Ari D. Brooks, M.D., Associate Professor of Surgery for Drexel University College of Medicine and Chair of the Cancer Committee at Hahnemann, will be honored as the first-ever recipients of the Beacon of Hope and Light of Life awards, respectively, by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Philadelphia Affiliate.

The two awards, created to recognize healthcare partners that have worked tirelessly to advance the fight against breast cancer, will be presented during the organization’s fourth annual Pink Tie Ball® on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia.

“Hahnemann University Hospital is truly appreciative to be honored in this very special way by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Philadelphia Affiliate,” said Michael Halter, president and chief executive officer, Hahnemann University Hospital.  “We extend our congratulations to our own Dr. Ari Brooks on his personal achievement and are indeed fortunate to have an individual such as Ari serving on our hospital’s medical staff.”

Held each October as a special dedication to mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate Pink Tie Ball has raised approximately $1.5 million in its first three years to help advance the Komen Foundation’s mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through education, screening, treatment and research.
